Event Details

This year thousands of students from across the country have been researching this year's theme, "Sustainable Communities". In World Savvy's first ever online Challenge, students will develop websites and documentaries representing their research and solutions to issues related to sustainability.

Support their efforts by volunteering your time to ensure we have a successful event.  There are a  few ways in which you can help:

·         Judges are needed to evaluate student websites and documentaries. In addition to viewing presentations and filling out a detailed grading rubric, judges engage in a brief Q&A with students. Judges will also monitor an online action roundtable with studetns, where they will discuss anAnyone 21 years old or older with a passion for education and an interest in global issues is encouraged to participate as a judge! A brief online orientation session is required for judges. Online judging will require a committment of approximately 8 hours over the course of the two-week period from March 19-28th. Note: Most judging can be done on your own schedule, however we will be in touch once you register to identify times when you will be available for a live online Q&A with students.

·         Proctors are needed to monitor action roundtables and Q&A sessions to support students and judges if they have questions.  This includes keeping track of the time for the Q&A and taking attendance for the action rountable, as well as troubleshooting classroom, technology or presentation problems. No prior knowledge relating to the theme is required. Proctors must be at least 15 years old. Online proctoring will require a committment of approximately 8 hours over the course of the two-week period from March 15-30th (flexible schedule).

·         General Volunteers are needed to assist our staff in tabulating scores and coordinating scheduling of the online comptition. General volunteers are asked to commit anywhere from 4-8 hours over the course of the two-week period from March 15-30th.

It is truly inspiring to see how young people are thinking about these important issues.  We hope you will help support this effort as we expand the reach of this program to serve more students online.

Please note that committed volunteers are critically important to making the Challenge. Each volunteer has a personalized schedule. As such, we ask for a 2 week cancellation notice if you are no longer able to volunteer. Of course, we understand that emergencies arise, but we appreciate your cooperation in helping us to ensure that the day is adequately staffed with volunteers. Thank you.
